How I Work

I am trained and certified in many of the latest breakthrough treatments including EMDR, Brainspotting, Comprehensive Resource Model (formerly called Resource Brainspotting), and more. I use these modalities because I have found them to be the most effective, and I integrate them into traditional talk therapy.

The field of psychotherapy has come a long way since it began. There are a couple of new kinds of cutting-edge therapy treatments that work very quickly, and we now know that it doesn’t have to take as long as previously believed for permanent healing and change to take place. The term “neuroplasticity” refers to the brain’s ability to change and rewire itself at any age or stage of life.

What is Brainspotting?

Brainspotting primarily uses focused eye position… EMDR primarily uses eye movement…..Simply put, these therapies can quickly clear the cobwebs out of your head!

What it is

Brainspotting is a powerful, focused treatment method that works by identifying, processing and releasing core neurophysiological sources of emotional/body pain, trauma, dissociation and a variety of other challenging symptoms.

Why it Works

Neuroimaging studies showed that when deeply traumatized people try to consciously access and put language to their trauma, their thinking brains essentially shut down, making them mostly unable to profit from standard talk therapy.

Watch a Session

Because reading about all this is abstract, and may leave the reader confused, I invite you to view a 20 minute video of a Brainspotting session that I performed on a colleague. This was her first Brainspotting session, and it is interesting to note that she did not tell me any details about what was making her anxious before or during the filming of this session. This challenges much of what has been believed about “the talking cure!” Every person has within us an innate healing ability….in my opinion, it is the job of the therapist to tap into that neurophysiological circuitry to get that healing process started.

* I hope this gives you some idea of what a session might be like and how I work.

Keep in mind that each person’s Brainspotting experience will be as unique as his or her fingerprint!
